Firman’s straight-shot tutorial

A hook is exciting to watch, but you don’t need one to strike. In this week’s submitted video, Firman sends the ball along an apparently fairly straight path before all the pins fall. Congratulations, Firman! 🎳
For fellow bowlers, the lesson is to build a comfortable delivery you can repeat. A straight shot can produce a strike. A hook offers a different angle into the pocket, but ball shape alone does not guarantee success; accuracy and consistency still need practice.
The six stills below come from the same original video. These are visual observations of one delivery, not technical measurements: speed, rev rate, boards and entry angle cannot be established from this recording.

Frame-by-frame review

The ball is supported in front of the body with both hands. Keep a calm starting routine and choose a target before moving.

The ball moves forward as the approach starts. A useful practice focus is matching the pace of the steps and swing so the movement feels comfortable and repeatable.

The left arm opens while the ball moves on the right side of the body. The free arm can help balance; keep the swing comfortable rather than forcing power.

The ball has left the hand, the torso leans forward and the right leg trails behind. Practise comfortably holding the finish for two seconds. Finger action at release is not clear enough to assess.

The ball is approaching the rack. The moving camera prevents a reliable assessment of exact boards or pocket contact. Use a repeatable target to assess direction during practice.

This still captures the continuing pin action from Firman’s delivery. Watch the video for the full sequence—a moment to celebrate together!
Next practice focus
Bring this clip to your next practice with Julius: what is already repeatable, and what one thing could improve? Firman previously attended a BAIQ coaching session with Julius; Congratulations, Firman, and keep improving, every team! 👏
