Certifications

Business Analysis International Qualifications (BAIQ) is a competency based certification scheme that provides a complete/holistic career pathway for the development of business or IT professionals who are interested in embarking on a career in Business Analysis or those who are already working as Business Analysts and looking to have their skills assessed and verified.

There are four levels to the certifications, and candidates move through the levels, as they build their experience:

  • Introductory level
  • Practitioner Level
  • Advanced Practitioner Level
  • Master Level

The individual certifications may be taken individually, and the examinations are conducted either by classroom examination or on-line (except at the Master Level).

Introductory

Introductory Certificate in Business Analysis

The BAIQ Introductory Certificate in Business Analysis covers the fundamental concepts and techniques used in business analysis. The examination leading to this certification tests knowledge and understanding, and is at levels 1/ 2 within Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Domains. The certification is obtained by passing a multiple-choice examination consisting of 40 questions and lasting for one hour. Candidates are required to answer 26 or more questions correctly in order to pass the examination.

Practitioner

The Practitioner level of BAIQ certifications require candidates to demonstrate understanding and expertise by applying relevant analysis and modelling techniques to a case study scenario. The assessment approach used is at level 3 within Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Domains. Candidates are required to achieve 50% or more to pass the certification examination.

Enterprise Business Analysis

The Certificate in Enterprise Business Analysis assesses a candidate’s ability to apply business analysis activities and techniques used at an enterprise level and during feasibility assessment.

The topics listed below will enable anyone new to business analysis to appreciate the rationale for business analysis and understand the key techniques involved in conducting the key activities of requirements elicitation, analysis and definition:

Business Requirements Analysis

This certification will benefit anyone involved in the elicitation, analysis and definition of requirements that are the basis for changes to business process and systems.

Advanced Practitioner

Agile Business Analysis

This certification is aimed at experienced business analysts who wish to understand how business analysis is applied within the context of the Agile philosophy, principles and techniques. Candidates will use their existing business analysis knowledge and experience to explore how this is employed within an Agile business environment.

Business Architecture

This certification covers the major aspects of Business Architecture. This includes a range of techniques and frameworks, and the relationship with other architectures and disciplines. The focus is on business rather than technology and is aimed at business managers, business analysts, project managers and change managers who wish to undertake a practical exploration of the key concepts and techniques involved in Business Architecture

Data Analysis

The Data Analysis certification covers the key approaches to analysing and modelling data: entity relationship modelling, analysis class modelling and normalisation of data.

The certification covers approaches to analysing and modelling data that reflect the business users' needs and priorities. It also provides an overview of the more mechanistic approach offered by normalisation, and then explores techniques to validate the views of the data against the stated requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement

The ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders has become an increasingly important competence in many roles - in particular, project management, business analysis and IS consultancy. This certification covers the essential frameworks and principles associated with effective stakeholder engagement.
